If she's a mother and the children are yours, sure, protect her from a bear.
If she's not a virgin and you're not responsible, then tell her to go find the man who popped her cherry, and get him to protect her from bears.
Honestly even if you do have kids, if she wasn't a virgin, keep in mind that children need a dad significantly more than they need a mom. If the kids aren't watching, then tell them you did everything you could. If the kids are watching, cover the kids rather than trying to rescue the rent-a-hole.
Plus women are kinda interchangeable, whereas stepdads are serious death risks for the kids. Even the old testament knew about that.
