Must constantly deal with foreign nations' (e.g. other Americans') attempts to backstab them, when they're not openly invading. Must be consummate politicians or get overthrown. Have to see to their own defence in the sense of maintaining the loyalty of an army and navy. May need to start their own religion to get a decent hearing in divorce court.
The demands on deprecated-Americans are monarch-level.
Or, merely perish: regularly die to assassination or traitors, if they cannot physically fight off the assassins. Train or else.
