A parasocial relationship is generally bad, especially when it becomes a one-sidedly deep relationship.
What do you call this relationship when the other side is an inanimate object, like a film series? At least if it's a teddy bear you can hug it. If it's something abstract all you can do is pine from afar and imagine it thinks about you.

Societies that do not enforce monogamous family units do well to suggest parasocial relationships.
If you can get your bottom half of males to love something that isn't women they can't have, less likely to destroy everything. See : Japan.
One thing I will give Africans - they don't do parasocial relationships as well as asians or whites, much harder to govern in that regard in general.
