They're only embarrassed if you catch them saying something sensible. Or, heaven forfend, profound.
Much of the degredation in public conversation has been intentional innovation. They were always trying to look this idiotic, but couldn't work out how. They said the stupidest things they could think of, but it wasn't as dumb as intended. Now it's much better. They sometimes even hire genuine brain damage to speak, producing truly authentic imbecility.
