The term "adversary" is a great name for great evil. The traitor is the enemy of both sides. Adversary per se, adversary to all.
By breaking trust with their own side, they show the other side, also, that they are untrustworthy. The enemy of your enemy is not your friend, contrary to what many childish traitors think. Everyone already knows the defector cannot be trusted. They aren't a friend, they are, at best, a tool. To be used up and discarded.
Turning traitor doesn't build trust and make your enemies into friends. It merely makes those who could have been your friends into more enemies. Hence, ninth circle of hell.
Unfortunately, the Truth is also the enemy of both sides.
It is very unusual to see a group conflict where even one side isn't headed by treacherous parasites. This means, if you desire to stop being the enemy of both sides, and succeed...you become the enemy of both sides.
Truth is the first casualty in war because no war in recorded history was waged on the side of Truth. Neither general can afford the truth of their motivations, values, or goals to become well-known. Diabolos means slanderer - to uphold their lies, these generals must slander the virtuous. Even those who merely damage the lies by contrast must be put down.
Consequently every war in history has primarily been a war against Truth, and only secondarily been a war against the mortal opponents.
Caino hypocriens is inherently a traitor species. That's the hypocrisy - leeching off your fellow men by stealth and fraud, tricking them into illegitimate charity. A traitor openly called traitor is merely a social cripple, too impulsive to stop themselves from trying to suck blood, but too inept to make it seem okay.
The Bible claims God created Man. The Bible was written by Satan - the higher power being referred to is Satanic power.
To overcome the Adversary, it is necessary to transcend Humanity.
You can defeat every human general, simply by making their motivations and goals well-known. It is true what they say: devils are cast out by truth.
Fiat vox veritatis, ruat caelum. Fiat vox veritatus, et pereat mundus, et pereat hominis.
