"you see them not run from being defeated, but cheerfully charge in again, because losing is good for you, losing is how you know you’ve picked an opponent worthy of a man. You learn to love things that are hard."

Losing is unpopular, and therefore unamerican.
Envy media is engineered to be diametrically opposed to cheerfully challenging a losing proposition. Even if you do really lose, you have to pretend you won.
Consequently, you can't do any real work in public.
It becomes socially normal to avoid any real work. It becomes socially normal to ensure nothing gets done. Sounds an awful lot like a bureaucracy. (Are bureaucracies made of envy?)
Christians are called to suffer for their fellow man. Consequently they run out of resilience capacity and can't face defeat for growth. Which is intended: growth causes inequality, which is inEgalitarian.
Slaves don't get paid, so doing a better job doesn't benefit you, it merely makes the other slaves look bad.
Schools fanatically discourage losing. Every defeat goes on your [[[permanent record]]]. As we know, americans are well-schooled.
