A shade disappears when the light casting its shadow goes out.
By contrast, beings of light seem to shine even more brightly in the darkness.
It is the undead which do and must fear the dark. It is they who are devoured by lightlessness.
Why do humans feel the need to flood their cities with illumination? Not a coincidence.
