Low Tech Usually Beats High Tech

High tech is used to justify bureaucratic expansion or for Envy reasons (but I repeat myself). It is rarely cost-effective or irreplaceable.

For example, large data transfers are best done via carrier pigeon. You can also beat internet speeds using a car, but the wages of the driver and fuel bill render the option inefficient. Pigeons normally aren't used not due to costs, but because they're icky and gauche, preventing infrastructure investment.

i read once pigeons make awful nests, nests on the level you'd expect out of a human child, because they were so fully domesticated they forgot how to build it themselves. pigeons basically exist around cities and not elsewhere for this reason. they were used for time immemorial, then one day, man upped and abandoned them.
