The only weird thing about this is how long it took nice normal law-abiding folk to realize marriage has been criminalized and to avoid it like they're supposed to.

You'll never get someone who writes an article like this to agree that its criminalised, since, no actual law written.
Raises some good questions though. Fecundity and religion strongly linked; maybe that's because religion intelligently overcame womens objections to being married to a beta.
Need beta traits to have security, beta traits deeply unattractive though.
