Can't Put It Down

"Do not call up what you can't put down," functionally cashes out to, "Do not call up."

The only reason to call up something is when it's more powerful than you are. If it's less powerful, then you can do the thing yourself. If it's more powerful, you will not be able to put it down.

  1. If you have some magic spell that lets you control a demon, including sending it back to hell, and you need the demon present to do what you want it to do, then it could make sense to call up what you can put down.

This is a fantasy scenario but fantasy is designed to mimic real life. Sometimes you'll have general control over something with different specific capabilities than your own; this does not mean that the capabilities of your agent are literally your own capabilities.
